How to cope with ActiveSync’s 86000108 error

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Here are two ways to solve this:
Notice that i am not guarantee that these two ways will working for you,but at least, give it a try before you have anther solution.
Solution A:
1.Uncheck all the items in the ActiveSync Options.
2.Perform a sync manually.
3.Now check one items in the options and then Sync again,if the error occurred again, then that means there is something wrong with this kind of items.
4.Try step 3 again and again until you find all the problems.

Solution B:
Another way is also possible if you have lot of USB ports(i just assume you connect your windows mobile phone to the PC through USB,if not, just skip)
For example, you have your device connected to the PC through the USB port in your PC case’s front panel, then try the USB port in the back and see.

Finally,good luck.
i am also very appreciate if you can share your solution here with us.

Choose "Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended)"

Difference between outlook and outlook express

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

I just noticed that lot of people feel confused with outlook and outlook express.
Ok,i should admit that these people including me:),about 4 years ago,i can’t tell
the difference either.
So,here is the difference:
1.Outlook express is shipped with internet explorer, that means you don’t need to install
it manually. You will find it through the start menu.
2.The purpose of Outlook express is solely to receive/send/edit mail,i mean,it’s only a email
client.Of course, with our OEExport, you can manage your windows mobile phone’s SMS from it too.
3.The development of outlook express is discontinued.in VISTA,it’s been replaced by
a new mail client:windows mail, seems Microsoft also encourage users to try another mail client
called “windows live mail”,i really feel confused about their marketing strategy,
maybe “windows live mail” is more related with their web service?

In other side:
4.You need to pay to use Outlook,it’s a component of OFFICE
5.Outlook is not a mail client only,it has lot of other features like calendar.

Conclusion:
Outlook express and outlook are two completely different applications both come from
Microsoft,Outlook is more powerful but outlook express is free.

A way to solve the activesynce 85010014 error

Friday, September 19th, 2008

I just start to use outlook2003 with my windows mobile 6 device,
and then i encountered the 85010014 error,i didn’t know how to deal
with this error since everything seems ok to me, i mean even the error
was there, the sync can still done successfully without any problem,
and then i searched on the net, wow, lot of entries about this,i skimmed over
lots of post on the net, seems lots of people suggest me to uninstall the
outlook 2003 and reinstall it again,i don’t want to do this since it’s only
a minor error(i even don’t want to call it as a error:)).
Ok,here is my story: i just noticed that i choose to sync the note item and
favorite item from ActiveSync options,so i decide to uncheck these two items
and give it a try,but sorry,no luck, then i decided to give up on this issue.
several minutes latter,i restarted my pc,and then 85010014 error was gone!,
So if you have the same error, before you uninstall
the outlook, try uncheck the note and favorite from ActiveSync—>Options,
and then restart you pc.it won’t take you too long time to see, trust me:)

Tracking time spent on phone calls and other events

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Outlook journal will be very useful when used to track the phone calls you made with others:For example:When you take a phone call from a friend, just open the Journal folder, then create a phone call item, and click Start Timer. Click Pause Timer when the call is over, you can aslo add any additional information as well, choose your friend’s name from the address book and then click Save and Close to save the item to Journal.

Here are the steps you need to follow to create a phone call item manualy in outlook journal.
1. File menu—>New—>Journal Entry.
2. In the Entry type list, set the type as “Phone call”.
3. Specify the company, contacts, and categories for the item, as applicable.
4. Set the start date and time, if they are different from the current date and time.
5. Set the duration
6. Click Save and Close.

Manually record a phone call entry in Outlook

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Sometime it will be very useful to save a very important call,i don’t mean that record the voice of the call but rather the call’s start time/duration/caller name etc.
Here with outlook journal, you can do it:
1. Click Ctrl+Shift+J. a dialog will appears
2. Set the call’s start time/duration
3. select the entry type as “Phone call”.
4. Type your notes in the lower panel.
5. Choose the caller’s name from address book(if the caller already exist in your contact)
Although assigning a contact is optional, I would suggest it. Outlook will then link this journal entry to the contact. You can then reference this item very easily by click “Activities” on your contact.

PocketPC will support sync note from ActiveSync, just select “Note” option from tools–>options of ActiveSync(I use windows mobile 6 professional and windows xp with ActiveSync 4.5)

How To terminate ActiveSync Process

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

I think it’s just weird that MS doesn’t provide a “Exit” menu for ActiveSync, since sometime it’s necessary to quit the ActiveSync if you have some sync problems with your pocketpc or you just want to free some memory.
To kill ActiveSync process:
1.Disconnect your phone from PC.
2.Call out the task manager by <Ctrl-Alt-Del>,in the process list, kill wcesmgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
If latter you want start ActiveSync again, just click ActiveSync icon on your desktop or start menu

Notice:for WMDC(Windows Mobile Device Center on vista),you need to killl wmdhost.exe and聽 wmdc.exe
